A late start at Doncaster led to a sluggish start from Chesterfield and Doncaster quickly capitilised on this from the start, dominating and attacking from the off. An unfortunate foot on the line led to a flick, which was confidently converted by Doncaster. This kicked Chesterfield into action leading to a far more even finish to the 1st half with a string of attacks from Chesterfield. However, this was not to be and we went into half time at 1-0 down.
A team talk filled with fake Percy pigs and Wendy worms for energy along with words of encouragement set the team up for the second half.
The 2nd half started far more evenly with end to end action, with Chesterfield applying more pressure as the match continued. Chesterfield continued to defend well however a well-drilled short by Doncaster resulted in a 2-0 lead. Heads refused to go down and they began to stretch the pitch, were aware of our positions and started to play as a team. Chesterfield were rewarded with a short and a beautiful struck ball hit the back of the net from captain Emma. Chesterfield continued to apply pressure and applied pressure to Doncaster to the very end. The younger members of the team continued to be a menace in the D but unfortunately their efforts weren't rewarded with an equalizer.
The team morale was high at the end, recognising the fantastic shift put in by all. Fingers crossed an earlier push back at home next week will get the team back on winning terms!
POM votes were awarded to Freya, Macie, Jas, Kara and Sarah, but the overall accolade goes to right-wing runner Nic!
