Following a couple of difficult away matches, Chesterfield were pleased to be back on home turf. Against a team who have had a strong start to the season, and sitting second in the league, the ladies were expecting a tough match.

The first twenty minutes were pretty even with both sides getting time in each other's half but a well executed goal by the Dragons saw the visitors go ahead into half time.

The focus into the second half was to keep patient, continue to open up the pitch through width and by stretching into their half.

The second half continued to be a very even affair. Chesterfield pressed higher and forced several short corners when Ruth, BethD, Chloe and Millie drove into their D. Unfortunately they couldn't find the killer finish and, against the run of play, Huddersfield scored a scrappy second goal.

Chesterfield refused to give up and their persistence was rewarded when a shot was stopped by a Huddersfield foot on the line and a penalty stroke was awarded. Captain Nuala Kendellen stepped up and put away the flick with confidence.

Up to the final whistle Chesterfield continued to put up a fight and a final flourish of pressure resulted in a last minute short corner. Sadly the shot was struck past the post by the keeper.

Despite the loss, Chesterfield celebrated a fantastic team effort which demonstrated multiple examples of the fantastic potential within the squad.

Player of the match was awarded to new recruit Lucy Oliver.
