Chesterfield U14 boys made the long journey to York yesterday for the their last match of 2024.

After some heavy rain on the journey to the game, the sun came out as the game started and Chesterfield went through the gears quickly.
Apart from the occasional York attack, the 1st half belonged to Chesterfield. The defensive line of Aqeel, Winston, Oscar & Cole looked good. Moving through the team the engine room of Sam & Thomas in central midfield were winning lots of tackles and initiating attack after attack into the York circle. Inside forwards Ted and Theo were creating serious problems for the York defence, and although York managed to hang in there for what seemed like a long time before the first goal eventually came after about 15 minutes. A Chesterfield penalty corner was initially blocked, but the loose ball was gathered in quickly by Ted and fired home. 1-0.
Chesterfield continue to dominate, but then against the run of play York grabbed an equaliser about 5 minutes before half time to make it 1-1

The second half began again with the visitors dominating possession. The Chesterfield attack was led by Harrison, Zach & Noah, and it was Noah in fine form who supplied an accurate cross from the right, for Ted to gratefully tuck away his second goal of the game. York then had a few attacks of their own, but Tyler in goal was composed and comfortably dealt with any issues that came his way. It didn't take long for a third goal to arrive; this time Thomas getting on the scoresheet with a well taken goal. Goal numbers 4 and 5 followed with Ted showing great skill and determination to put these chances away and take his tally to 4 for the day, and round off a superb masterclass in attacking play.

Chesterfield worked really hard in the first half with not much reward, but remained positive throughout and were duly rewarded for their superb effort and hard work in the second half, when the goals came in abundance. Well done boys - what a way to finish the year !
